Coal Creek Community Park and Museum is a recreated heritage village that depicts the history of the district from 1870 to 1920. The original and replica buildings tell the story of everyday life of our early migrants. Housing a collection of industrial, agricultural and social history.
The site can host small to larger events, utilising existing buildings or the grounds of the park.
The largest multi-purpose outdoor venue in the region has two football/cricket grounds (one with a turf wicket, the main ground with a synthetic pitch), seven synthetic surface netball courts and a separate open area on the east side of the Rec Reserve precinct next to the skate park.
The No.1 oval has four light towers that produce 150LUX. The No.2 oval has two light towers which produce enough light for training purposes. Night matches can be held at the netball complex thanks to eight light towers over the seven courts.
The Wonthaggi Power social rooms on the main oval have a bar and small kitchen. Both the main oval and netball facility have a small kiosk.
The change rooms and pavilions on the football/cricket grounds offer shade. There are shade structures at the ends of most of the netball courts. There are 60 marked car spaces next to the netball courts along Korumburra Road. Cars can park around the boundary of both ovals which could hold a total of approximately 300 cars.
The near new netball facility was opened in April 2017. It is the only facility in the Bass Coast region that has more than two courts. It is used by both the Wonthaggi & District Netball Association and the Wonthaggi Power Football Netball Club. The football grounds are the home of the Wonthaggi Power who play in the Gippsland League. During cricket season the grounds are used by the Wonthaggi Miners Cricket Club.
The Wonthaggi Show Society holds its annual Rural Show at the venue. Adjacent to the Wonthaggi Recreation Reserve is the Bass Coast Aquatic Leisure Centre and the Wonthaggi Tennis Club.
The 850 metre long track is a slightly undulating track and consists of a strong clay based surface with loamy sand. The starting gate is concrete and meets national standards with room for 40 riders. The track is fairly fast and flowing with jumps that are all fairly safe and can be taken at your comfortable speed. For riders who like a bit of air time, the track has three table tops and six ski-jumps.
A canteen is open for business on race days and most practice days.
Parking space in the south-west corner of the property, heading toward the start line, caters for more than 100 vehicles and trailers.
A popular feature of the Wonthaggi circuit is the large pit area which has a view of almost the entire circuit.
The club recently constructed a very good control tower which is put to good use during the national events. Facilities are designed to cope with the national level events that are run each year like the Australian MX Titles, Vic Titles and GCMX series events.
