“The Deakin Melbourne Boomers have built a wonderful relationship with Gippsland Regional Sports Complex and the Sale community. We have visited on numerous occasions to run basketball activities and events, including a 3×3 junior tournament and 3×3 WNBL exhibition game against the Bendigo Spirit as well as junior clinics, squad training sessions and an open training session during the 2019/20 WNBL season. We’ve been impressed by the community support and the fantastic facilities at the centre.”
The Deakin Melbourne Boomers have become a mainstay on the Gippsland sporting calendar.
Rebounding from the success of the 2018 WNBL Triple Crown tournament played across Wellington, Baw Baw and Latrobe City shires, the Boomers have returned to the region with huge programs year-in-year-out in partnership with the Latrobe Valley Authority.
Home grown Boomers star Chelsea D’Angelo and her teammates have become firmly entrenched as local heroes, conducting clinics and workshops alongside coaches Guy Molloy and Paul Flynn to engage hundreds of local players and coaches in Maffra, Morwell, Churchill, Moe and Warragul.
The Boomers continue to stage school and club clinics across Gippsland, as well as: 3×3 basketball tournaments, exhibition matches and workshops, coach the coach sessions, community visits, a locally-tailored Boomers Coaching Program and more, including in-season WNBL matches planned for 2022 and 2023.
